“Rob Maciak is a truly unique
rising star in Western Canada’s
music industry.  His deliverance
sheds a light of accessibility and showmanship on the
material, a light which would never have been
considered possible by numerous other top-notch
artists.”

meeting other doll artists, meeting
other doll artists, organizations, events
&  people whom I would not
have had the opportunity
to meet. I can appreciate
my dolls for that gift they
continue to give me.

We find inspiration in strange and unusual imagery;
beautiful but disturbing, intriguing yet provoke
feelings of uneasiness. Our lives changed drastically
12 years ago when we decided to quit our day jobs to
become full time artists and automaton makers, it
has been a rewarding experience, even if our chosen
profession draws a blank stare. Can you think of a
better way to make a living than making a dancing
monkey in a tutu?

"What identifies a Doll as a work of Art
is its ability to project a human emotion
into the viewer. It is this ability that will
transcend time and allow a person in
some future generation to view the work
and feel what the artist felt at the moment
of it's creation."

Making dolls has become
my life’s focus.  This artistic
expression is the first thing
I have done in my lifeI can
truly say I am proud of.
I have found joy, passion & anever-ending
challenge in this art form. I am continually
amazed at how consuming this passion is.

I cannot imagine my life without dollmaking.
No other art form combines so many creative
endeavors that I truly love; painting, fashion
design, pattern drafting, hairstyling, and
color harmonizing.   My hope is
for others to be touched not
only by these visual elements
that I love, but by the humor
my characters evoke as well.

From the very beginning of my work I
was inspired by the world of theater
& fairy tales...so inspired that I tried
to create my own fantasy world and
its inhabitants. About 10 years ago
I started to make combinations of dolls and
big animals. The animals complete the story.

The secret of the 'Dutch Touch' is
that many Dutch dollmakers are
well known for their creative and
unconventional use of form and
material. We live in a flat, open,
and for many centuries, internationally oriented
country, with many influences from all over the
world. That offers a special flavour, a special
dimension in our dolls.
